Digital X-Rays
Dr. I. Costache & Associates, Your Bloor and Dufferin Dentist, Utilizes X-Rays to Quickly and Safely Assess Your Dental Health
What is the foundation of your smile? Digital X-ray technology provides a faster and safer way to closely examine your teeth. These X-rays speed treatment and provide a more accurate diagnosis of your teeth.
What are the advantages of digital X-rays? The advancement of digital X-ray technology has many advantages over traditional X-rays. Some of these are outlined here:
- Digital x-rays are much faster than traditional X-rays
- There is much less radiation
- The images can be enhanced for a more thorough diagnosis
- Images are stored digitally for easy retrieval and comparison
Why Digital X-Rays?
Digital Sensor Technology:
Digital X-rays use electronic sensors to capture images of the teeth and jaw. These sensors are more sensitive to X-rays than traditional film, requiring less radiation exposure to produce high-quality images.
Reduced Radiation Exposure:
One of the significant benefits of digital X-rays is the reduction in radiation exposure compared to traditional film X-rays. This is especially important for patient safety, and it aligns with the broader trend in healthcare to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining diagnostic accuracy.
Faster Image Acquisition:
Digital X-rays produce images almost instantly, eliminating the need for film processing. This results in a quicker and more efficient diagnostic process, allowing dentists to assess and discuss findings with patients in a timelier manner.
Image Enhancement and Manipulation:
Digital X-ray images can be easily manipulated and enhanced on a computer screen. This allows dentists to zoom in on specific areas, adjust contrast and brightness, and use various tools to highlight and analyze different aspects of the image.
Improved Diagnostic Accuracy:
The ability to enhance and manipulate digital images contributes to improved diagnostic accuracy. Dentists can detect dental issues, such as cavities, periodontal disease, and abnormalities, with greater precision.
Electronic Storage and Retrieval:
Digital X-ray images are stored electronically, eliminating the need for physical storage space and reducing the environmental impact associated with film-based X-rays. Electronic storage also facilitates easy retrieval and sharing of images among dental professionals when needed for consultations or referrals.
How Does It Work?
It’s quick and easy! We place a small sensor in your mouth which is connected to a computer with a tiny wire. An x-ray beam is then sent through your teeth which records the image of your teeth and sends it to a computer. The sensor can be re-positioned to photograph other sections of your teeth.
